New York Fashion Week: Backstage at Kate Spade Spring 2014
Hair: Tommy Buckett for Garnier Fructis
NYC girls can rejoice, your beloved top knot lives on at Kate Spade for Spring 2014. With some good Garnier Fructis products and some gentle teasing, top knots were shaped high onto the models' heads into a style that we know is easy to do at home. Buckett started by raking some Style Surfer Hair Power Putty through the hair with his fingers for some grip before securing the hair into a top knot. To keep it looking undone, he rubbed some more Power Putty into his palms and then onto the top knot. To finish the look he used Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Hairspray and Sleek Finish 5-in-1 Serum Spray.
Makeup: Neil Scibelli for Jouer cosmetics
This retro, almost doll-like makeup look started with a matte skin using Jouer Matte Moisture Tint and was set with Jouer Mattifying Translucent Powder. Jouer blush in Peony was applied on the cheeks for an innocent flush. Scibelli used Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Praline all over the lid as a base for the dramatic eye look. He started with a cat eye, using Jouer Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Panther, and then used a bold, silvery-white eyeliner to make the eyes pop. The eyes were finished with Ardell false lashes in black (demi wispies). To finish the entire look, Scibelli used Jouer lipstick in Kate, topped with Jouer Moisturizing Lipgloss in Blush.
Nails: Deborah Lippmann
Lippmann says that nail art is going nowhere, and your nails are one of your most important accessories. (I sigh with relief). She gave the models a long, pointed nail with a base color of Pseudo Silk Kimono, a “matteen” finish that launches in November. Next, she painted the tip of the nails with Bad Moon Rising, a pewter from the Big Bang set that comes out in October, and beneath the pewter she drew a thin line of color, depending on what the model was wearing in the show. Some girls get an accent of It’s Raining Men (red), some got Groove Is In The Heart (pink), and the other girls got Walking On Sunshine (lemon yellow) that comes out in Summer 2014.
