I've never wanted a ponytail more in my life

Sure, I've worn a pony or two in my time, but a full, voluminous, bouncy ponytail is something that has always evaded me.  It sounds like it would be such a simple thing to achieve, but my thin hair often lacks the grit it takes for one of these cool pony's.  I never cared when the runways of the world were featuring that weird, slicked back pony (I don't care what anybody says, it can be very weird and alien-like, especially on a young model).  But now actresses, models, and it girls alike are rocking this tousled, cool ponytail and I want one more than ever.  Here's how to create a glam ponytail:

Jennifer Lopez at the 2015 Oscars (hair by Lorenzo Martin)

Martin recommends starting with clean, moisturized hair using L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Shampoo, Pre-Conditioner, and Conditioner.  After washing, massage L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straight Perfecting Balm all over wet hair, to fight against humidity if you have naturally curly hair like that of Ms. Jlo, and blow dry with a round brush.  Next, Martin recommends setting hair in big, hot rollers for even more volume. Once the rollers are cool, remove and brush through hair.  Spray L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum Spray to prevent flyaways.  Gather hair into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic with metal hooks on each end to keep the ponytail high (is this the secret that I've been missing?  Is it all in the hooks?).  Martin finished off the look off with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Weather Control Hairspray to combat the rainy weather on Sunday night.

Joan Smalls at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party (hair by Jennifer Yepez)

Yepez began by spraying Smalls' hair with Orlando Pita Volumizing Mist before blowing hair dry with a round brush.  Next, she used a T3 Single Pass Curling Iron, curling the hair section by section, but leaving the ends out for a sort of unfinished look.  She used Serge Normant Dream Big Volumizing Spray all over the hair to add volume and texture.  She pulled the hair into a ponytail, using a hook elastic to secure it, and wrapped a small piece of the ponytail around the elastic to cover it.  To finish the look, Yepez used a small amount of Phyto Phytolisse Ultra Glossing Serum on the ends and then finished with Serge Normant Meta Luxe Hairspray all over.

Backstage at the Lela Rose Fall 2015 show during New York Fashion Week (hair by Esther Langham for Beauty.com)

Backstage at Lela Rose, Langham started with a tennis ball-sized amount of Alterna Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse on damp hair, using evenly from roots to ends.  Seems like a lot of mousse, but probably exactly what a fine-haired gal like myself needs.  Next, she applied Alterna Bamboo Volume 48 Hour Sustainable Volume Spray on the roots, and blew out with a blow dryer and a diffuser to enhance the natural texture of each model's hair.  To tame flyaways, she used Alterna Caviar Omega + Nourishing Oil, and then she proceeded to pull the hair back into a ponytail, securing with an elastic.  Once the hair was in a ponytail, she pulled at the hair around the hairline and face to add character and texture.  To finish the look, Langham used Alterna Caviar Working Hair Spray to keep the look in place.

  1. Wow!! Really beautiful hairs you have dear. I also love clean and moisturized hairs, so I always use alterna hair care products in my hairs. I feel more volume in my hairs since the day I have started using these products.
