Skincare Secrets: The Scrubs

Ever wonder why some people just seem to have deliciously glowy skin?  Celebrities, models, whoever they are, it's like their skin has never seen a clogged pore in their entire existence on this planet.  Well, friends, it's not like those people just woke up that way.  Usually people spend the most money and time on the skin care portion of their beauty routines (self included).  One of the most important factors in skin care (and the key to glowing skin) is exfoliation.
Facial scrubs are necessary for exfoliating dead skin cells that can dull your skin or clog your pores, but most people don't know that if you pick the wrong kind you can actually damage your skin.  Yikes!  Some of the scrubs out there have rather large scrubbing particles that can cause tiny, microscopic tears on the skin's surface.  Now don't get me wrong, you're not going to look like Quasimodo just because you use these scrubs, but they can cause inflammation and irritation that are entirely unnecessary.  My favorite scrubs are those that are made of ingredients that calm irritation while sloughing away dead skin cells GENTLY.

Dermalogica Clear Start Blackhead Clearing Pore Control Scrub ($19)
This scrub uses superfine microbeads to get rid of dead skin cells, while bentonite clay soaks up impurities away from your pores.  Botanicals like tea tree, menthol, and Meadowsweet simultaneously soothe the skin while it's getting clean.  Bonus: you can leave this on your skin for a 10-15 minute mask if you need extra deep-cleaning.  And it smells amazing!

Alba Botanica Good & Clean Toxin Release Scrub ($8.99)
I'm always looking for skincare with non-toxic ingredients, and this 100% vegetarian, sulfate-free, and oil-free scrub fits the bill.  There are no artificial colors, just awesome ingredients like botanicals, fruit acids, and ground walnut to totally detox the skin without stripping it.  (The whole Alba Good & Clean skin care line is one of my favorite lines out there, and it's totally affordable!  But more on that later...)

Bliss Micro Magic Spa-Powered Microdermabrasion Treatment ($48)
As the name suggests, the particles in the product are micro-fine, which exfoliates the skin without damaging.  Bliss really excels at bringing spa products to those who can't always get to a spa for a professional treatment, and this product is no exception.  The ingredients are high-quality and so are the results.  Volcanic pumice exfoliates, aloe soothes, vitamin E and jojoba oil moisturize, while peppermint extract invigorates.  Skin is left refreshed, nourished, clean, and healthy.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Polish ($24)
My friends at B-Glowing.com turned me on to this product, and I ALWAYS trust their opinions.  This is a great anybody-can-use this product because it's made for the most sensitive of skins.  It's made with Shea Nut shell powder to exfoliate while Shea Butter moisturizes.  Licorice root and white tea give the skin a boost of antioxidants, while willow bark extract further promotes exfoliation and cell turnover.  Skin is left glowing, but not irritated.

Stay tuned for more Skincare Secrets!  Next time we'll be discussing another important player in your skincare routine: The Serums.
