New York Fashion Week: Backstage at Ruffian Spring 2014

Hair: Nick Irwin for Tigi
Irwin wanted the models to have slightly undone hair, almost like it had been styled, but then slept on.  (Bad girls and walk-of-shamers can feel good about this 'do).  He prepped just the roots with CATWALK by TIGI Curlesque Strong Mousse, and kept the ends free of product.  He curled hair in random sections with a curling wand (one of those magical little numbers without a clamp) and set the curl with a duck-bill clip.  Once the entire head was set, Irwin removed the clips and gently brushed out the curls into the desired shape.  He finished the hair with CATWALK by TIGI Sleek Mystique Look-Lock Hair Spray and Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray.

Makeup: James Kaliardos for MAC
The skin was kept relatively clean, with just a little Mineralize foundation to even out the skin tone.  This look was all about a soft, smokey eye using the Trend Eye Palette coming out in Spring 2014.  Kaliardos used March Mist (grey) around the eye, and a little Particularly Pretty (pink) on just the lid, diffusing the colors with a MAC 213 brush.  He used Haute and Naughty Mascara in Black to complete the eye look.  Particularly Pretty from the same spring palette was used on the cheeks, while Kaliardos opted for Trendy Twist (apricot) from the Spring 2014 Trend Lip Palette on the lips.

Nails: Ruffian x Birchbox collection
The nail art at Ruffian's show is courtesy of the colors YOU selected for the Birchbox Crowdsourced collection.  The 3 colors, Delirium (purple), Hedge Fund (green), and Fox Hunt (orange) were painted around the models' nails along the outside of a nude nail (Ruffian Naked nail lacquer).
