Bridal Fashion Week: Backstage at Monique Lhuillier Fall 2013

Hair:
Nina Dimachki for Kérastase
Inspiration:
A futuristic Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly.  The hair was romantic, yet architectural, and worn off the neck to emphasize the beautiful detailing on the gowns.  There were a lot of 3-D effects, illusion necklines, and lace detail on the gowns, so an up-do was ideal.

How-to:
Dimachki started with Kérastase Ciment Thermique for heat protection.  On dry hair she used a lot of Volumactive mousse and a little Volumactive spray for grip before curling hair all over with a curling iron.
*Insider tip: Dimachki says do NOT be afraid of mousse when it comes to bridal hair.  It gives great hold, but still allows for movement.  For curls, she used a curling iron, but you can also use hot rollers at home.
Next she isolated the top section of hair, and placed the bottom section of hair into a ponytail.

Next Dimachki placed the top section of hair back over the bottom, and used pins to hold in place temporarily.  She took all the hair and rolled under.

The last step was taking the pins out and using a curling iron to accentuate that dip where the pins were.  She finished with plenty of Kérastase Double Force hairspray.

Makeup:
Romero Jennings for MAC Cosmetics
How-to:
Jennings wanted this look to be all about the matte skin, a look that the bride can achieve at home, and matte photographs really well.  MAC Studio Fix was the foundation for the look, and all girls got a dusting of Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder to set the look.
The lids were left pretty bare, with just a little taupe shadow in the crease.  A thin line was drawn at the lash line with eyeliner, extending just a little bit past the eye for a cat-eye effect, and a strong brow framed the face.  The peachy-nude on the lip was a blend of 2 lipstick colors that are new for fall 2013: Restrained and Runway Hit.  No lip pencil was used.  Studio Careblend powder (also photographs matte) was used to finish the look.
