New York Fashion Week: Backstage at Monique Lhuillier Fall 2013

Hair: Odile Gilbert for Kérastase

Odile created a deep side part in the hair and gathered it into a ponytail at the nape of the neck, securing with an elastic.  She sprayed the top of the head with Double Force Hair Spray and applied a bit of Kérastase Ciment Thermique to smooth down the hair, but not enough to give it a wet look.

Odile then took a 1 inch thick strip of leather fabric and hooked it into the elastic that was holding the ponytail.  She wrapped the leather fabric around the length of the ponytail all the way down and fastened with a clear elastic.  She wrapped the length of the pony around the base to create a loop and pinped into place, finishing with Kérastase Double Force Hairspray.

Makeup: Val Garland for M.A.C.

This look was all about the strong, graphic black winged eye.  To create the look Val drew a straight line out from the eye with MAC Fluidline gel liner in Blacktrack.  Underneath the eye she stopped the line near the iris of the eye to leave a gap.  She used the Kohl Power eye pencil in Feline on the inside of the eye (waterline).  No mascara or brow color was used, but the brows were brushed into place.  The look was finished off with a little bit of lip balm to ensure not to take away from the bold eye.
*Insider tip: To stop eyeliner from bleeding, Val used MAC's  Mixing Medium with a brush to seal the line.  To translate the look for every day women, she recommends a much smaller line, blended with a brush so you get a subtle wash of smokey color.

Nails: Essie

Forget about fancy nail art when you're dealing with colors that are awesome all on their own. Essie nail artists decided to use Over The Top (a shimmery graphite) on the hands and StyleNomics (an almost-black hunter green) on the feet.
