New York Fashion Week: Backstage at Tracy Reese Fall 2013

For Tracy Reese's Fall 2013 beauty look, she wanted the models to look like they were walking home in the morning after a long night out.  STOP with the dirty minds people, because it's not necessarily a walk of shame (hello, she could have a job or have been at her bestie's apartment all night).  It's more of a cool New Yorker vibe where she's up at the crack of dawn walking home, before the streets get busy.  Her hair is mussed, her makeup is a little messy, but she still looks chic as ever.  I most definitely think that second-day hair is the best hair, so let's discuss the look backstage.

Hair: Jeanie Syfu for TRESemmé

This look is straight, but not sleek.  It's full of body and texture, much like it would be after having slept on it for a night.  Syfu started with damp hair and liberally applied TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse through the length of the hair.  She rough-dried the hair with her fingers while it was upside down until it was mostly dry.  This gives hair volume and texture, rather than blowing it dry with a round brush.  She finished drying with a Mason Pearson brush, blowing the hair straight, but lifting up at the roots so that the hair is not flat.
Syfu flipped the hair back over when it was dry and made a dramatic side bang by brushing the hair diagonally to one side over the forehead.  She fastened the bang to the side with some bobby pins that had been spray painted black before moving to the crown to gently tease the hair for volume.  The hair was finished with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for hold and a little TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo for texture.

Makeup: Mally Roncal for Mally Beauty
Mally started the makeup look by putting Mally Beauty Nourishing Lipstick in French Kiss on lips to let it sit, and then wiped it off right before the show starts, so it's almost like a stained effect.
The focus of the look was really on the bold, black smokey eye.  For this look she used the matte black shade from the Mally Beauty City Chick Smokey Eye Kit in Soho Silver, all over the lid.  To customize the look on each model, she bent a clean mascara wand to their specific eye shape, before dipping it in black gel eyeliner and smudging it out on the ends.  Since it was customized to each girl, each eye looked a little bit different and undone.  See ladies?  Makeup doesn't ALWAYS have to be perfect.

Nails: Tracylee for Sally Hansen
Tracylee started this nail look with 1 coat of Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in Wedding Glitters (gold).  Next, she took advantage of the shape of the Salon Manicure brush when she applied 2 coats of New Wave Blue (new for Fall 2013).  The brush has a rounded shape to it, so she just spread it out on the nail just above the cuticle so you could see the gold, and brushed towards the tip.

New Sally Hansen x Tracy Reese Salon Manicure colors available for Fall 2013: Malbec (aubergine), Perfectly Poppy (scarlet red), and New Wave Blue (teal).
