Backstage with Mara Hoffman part 1: hair and makeup

Before we get into the looks that I adored at the Mara Hoffman SS2013 swim collection, because there were like one million that I wanted, let's discuss the action backstage.
Each girl got a temporary tattoo before the show on her calves.

Hair: Nick Irwin for Tigi
Step 1 for the hair was to use Tigi Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo to provide volume and texture.  The hair was parted down the center and then sprayed with Tigi Session Series Salt Spray.  After being sprayed hair as curled using a curling iron and set into pins to cool.  Tigi Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray was used to help set the hair and give hold throughout the show.  After allowing the set to cool, the hair was taken out of pins and brushed out with a Mason Pearson brush.  Tigi Session Series Finishing Spray was used to hold the shape that the hair had been brushed into.  To give added cool factor some small fishtail braids or twists were added in the hair, and then wrapped in leather pieces.  The looks were all finished with Tigi Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray.

Makeup: Lottie for MAKE UP FOR EVER
For a sun-kissed skin look, like the girls had been riding through the desert, Lottie mixed MAKE UP FOR EVER Uplight in #22 with HD Invisible Cover Foundation.  She then contoured the face with Mat Bronze on the areas where the sun would hit the face (temples, cheekbones, etc).  To give the face some femininity and highlight, they applied MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadow in 28E to the temples for a pearly finish.
For the eyes, Lottie created almost a reverse smokey eye, having the emphasis on the below the eye instead of on the lid.  She did this with various colors of Aqua Shadow, using the lighter colors on the inner corners, blending out into the darker colors.  Next she used Aqua Shadow in #0E (black) on the lid and on the water line.  Next she put a pop of gold in the inner corner of the eyes using Metal Powder #1 and applying with a wet brush.  The eye look was further defined using the MAKE UP FOR EVER Brow Pencil to fill in the brows, and Smoky Lash mascara on the lashes.  Keeping the emphasis on the eyes, rather than the lips, Lottie finished the look with a light coat of Glossy Full Couleur in #10.

Skin: Hawaiian Tropic
Before the models went onstage their slathered themselves with Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration sunscreen lotion because it's sunscreen, but (as the name implies) also a lotion.  The models used it right before they walked the runway to get that moisture and shine on their mile-long legs.  For more info on Silk Hydration visit the Hawaiian Tropic facebook page
