Holiday gift guide: fragrance edition

Perfume is really one of my favorite gifts to give during the holiday season.  It slips right in to a stocking, they are usually housed in aesthetically-pleasing bottles, and makes a great for those "who have everything".  When I'm stumped on what to get someone, I almost always go the perfume route.  There's something out there for every personality, and at a range of prices.  Here are some of my faves this season:
For the mom or mother-in-law:
Oscar de la Renta Live In Love EDP ($58-$98 for various sizes) is really a beautiful fragrance with many facets.  It's a true floral with opening and heart notes of orchid, hyacinth, jasmine, orange flower, and rose.  The base notes of amber, sandalwood, and cedarwood make it feel rich.  This is a classic fragrance for a classic woman.

For the sister-in-law with the tattoos:
Juliette Has A Gun Purse Bullet ($75) is a fun, funky, and substantial gift.  It comes with 4 concentrated fragrance oil refills that fit in to the bullet.  The gal gifted can toss the bullet in her purse and have it on them at all times.  There's several fragrances to choose from, including Lady Vengeance, Calamity J., Miss Charming, and Citizen Queen.

For the co-worker:
Thymes Filigree EDP ($60) is a scent that is only around for the holidays, so jump on it! It was introduced in 1999 and retired in 2009, but for a limited time it's been re-introduced on Thymes.com.  The fresh notes of neroli, lavender, and spearmint make it a universally-appealling fragrance, while the warm notes of ginger, cedarwood, and clove make it perfect for the holidays.

For the girlfriend/wife:
Avon Step In To Sexy EDP ($28) is great for a sophisticated, sensual woman.  The face of the fragrance is none other than Christy Turlington, who is the very definition of sophisticated, and the bottle is inspired by a woman's calf as she steps in to her heels.  The floral notes of black raspberry, freesia, and violet, are grounded by rosewood, cashmeran, orris root, and golden amber.

For the daughter, no matter what age she is:
Harajuku Lovers Jingle G ($25) is both affordable and adorable.  It comes packaged as an ornament to hang on the tree, so she can be seen wearing her little Santa suit, but the real magic is inside the bottle.  The fragrance is fresh, fruity, and florally, with notes of tangerine, gardenia, star fruit, jasmine, orange blossom, and honeysuckle.

Many thanks to all that sent samples of fragrances that were considered for this post.
