New York Fashion Week: Backstage at Porter Grey SS2012

Backstage at Porter Grey, the hair team from Cutler and the beauty team from Sephora were giving models an easy spring look that you can achieve at home.

The Sephora beauty team, led by Jose Rivera, were all about the natural skin and bold brows.

For the face, MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix was used to prep the skin, and then Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer was used to give lightweight coverage.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder was used to add brightness to the under-eye area.

Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder added a soft finish to the skin.

Lorac Blush in Peach gave the perfect flush to the cheeks.

Smashbox Softbox Palette was used on the eyes, including the Cream Liner in Taupe as a base for the shadow in the crease. The eyeshadow was used in Nectar on the lid and then Flirt in the crease.

Sephora Collection Nano Eyeliner No. 10 was used on the lash line. This Khaki color is a great alternative to black eyeliner in the day time. Lancome Definicils was used to finish off flirty lashes, and then Benefit Brown Zings was used for impactful brows.

YSL Rouge Volupte No. 30 Faubourg Peach was used as a base on the lips, and then NARS lipstick in Belle De Jour was layered on top.

For the hair, the Cutler team was playing with the natural texture of the model’s hair for a sexy, undone look. It is so refreshing to see natural texture being used, and makes it much easier on us at home trying to achieve the look! Rather than shellacking the hair with serum, which I’m prone to do, the stylists opted for more of a matte finish using Redken products.

When hair was being blown dry, stylists used Redken Hardwear No. 16 Super Strong Styling Gel, but hair was rough dried rather than blown out smooth with a round brush in most cases. Stylists also used this product to flatten out the front of the bangs with their hands for a smooth finish in the front in slight contrast to the natural texture in the back.

Redken QuickDry 18 Finishing Spray and Fashion Work 12 were the hairsprays used to finish off the look.
