Adventures in Hair Removal

Sometimes the world is just not fair. Some women are condemned to a life of daily shaving, waxing, and threading. I got a great deal when I was born freakishly hairless. My leg hair is fine and blonde, and I rarely have to shave. I'm also not prone to ingrown hairs. Sigh...sometimes the universe is amazing.
But I think I was awarded a little Karmic retribution the other day when I tried Veet hair remover Spray-on Formula ($8.00). Nair and Veet hair removal creams are certainly not made for amateurs, but I've been a long-time fan of Veet's sensitive skin hair removal cream. I had a scarring incident with Nair in high school that will not be discussed here. But Veet? A thin layer on my legs, 5 minutes of patience, et voila! Hairless legs for at least a week. The only disadvantage to my Veet usage is the mess that I make of my hands while applying the cream to my legs.
When I saw the spray-on formula in the store I thought that my already-simple process was going to get that much easier. Oh how I was wrong!
First off, I had to use the entire bottle to get an adequate layer on my legs. I'd like to claim that this is because my legs are model-length, but that may be a bit of an exaggeration.
A second issue that arose was the utter mess that I made of my bathroom. Sure, my hands were less messy than when I use the regular cream, but I can't say the same for my bathtub, shower curtains, or my bathmat.
But by far the biggest issue was the rash that I got on my legs. Allergic reaction to the formula? Possibly. My skin was abnormally dry and sensitive that day from the brutal NY cold? Equally likely. Whatever the reason, I think I will be sticking to the regular pump bottle rather than the spray-on. I think my bathroom might thank me for that decision.

  1. i have v v fine hair and i dont shave. i think its bad to shave. its a vicous cycle. i know because i used to have v v fine armpit hairs too. n i shave them. then now they are so coarse. i really regret. sigh. so no way am i going to shave hands or legs. we belong to those with less hairs, why bother to go through the hassle and later have more thicker 'regrown' hairs.
