Digging for Gold

One of my favorite looks this holiday season is that of a gilded Goddess. Interestingly enough, it's also one of my favorite looks during the summer when I'm all brown and lovely. But for Holiday, it's great to have just a little gold sheen to light up your look.

The easiest way to incorporate a little gold into your life (without winning the lotto) is on your cheeks. Everyone knows I'm obsessed with Too Faced's Snow Bunny, so I'll spare you that rant. But another great one is Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick in Bronze ($38). Great on your cheeks, it can also be used as a highlighter on your eyes, nose, and collarbone.

Another option for adding a subtle glimmer is Too Faced's "Absolutely Invisible" Candlelight Powder ($25). This translucent powder was made to make your face glow as if you're at a candlelight dinner, while at the same time soothing tired skin and reducing puffiness. It's a really soft shimmer, so don't be scared to slather it on. Use it just as you would use a pressed powder that you already have in your collection.

But perhaps the most user-friendly way to get more gold in your life is with eye shadow. You can find a full range of gold eyeshadows at M.A.C. for $14.50. And the best part is when you're done with your eyeshadows, you can return 4 of your empty cases for a free lip gloss. It's all about recycling these days. My personal favorites of their gold color range are Bronze (I think the name speaks for itself) and Amber lights, which is a color almost anyone could wear. It's a lighter bronze, with a shimmery peach effect to it. When you're not doing an all-over gold shadow, Amber Lights is also a great highlighter for your brown bone, or to dab on the inside of tired eyes for a little pick-me-up. If you're a little more daring and looking for a more glitter-ish shade of gold shadow, Nars has an amazing tone that's just perfect for the holidays: Silent Night.
As if the name itself isn't enough to make you get up and sing, it's on sale at Sephora for a limited time for $9 (usually $22). You can use the money you save towards funding a new party dress! Now throw on a gold necklace or some gold bangles and your look is finished.
